So I've been working on a piece I hope to show at the A-kon art show at the end of this month/beginning of June. It was something I cooked up as an idea while half-asleep after rewatching The Doctor's Wife for the fifth time.
I'm kind of glad I took progress photos.
( Progress shots! All shitty mobile phone quality pictures, but clear enoughCollapse )
Now here we are... all put together in more-or-less the fashion it will be glued on together. All layered and shiny. There's still a bit of touch-up to do before I buy glue (something I didn't think of until today, whoops) and finish it and buy a cheap frame to hang it up for display/sale.

If this doesn't sell at A-kon I'll probably put it up online and auction it off or something. We'll see how it all goes.
In any case, I'm pleased. Sore as hell, but pleased. :) |

Kiri and I went this morning to see Kylie, the Emergency Back Up Niece, playing her Under 9 Division League Championship.
Sparks: 4 Orange Crush: 3 (in 5 innings)
These girls, aged 6-8, showed a ton of heart and some pretty good skills. Kylie had a 2 RBI double, pitched well, and in the bottom of the 4th had a great throw from left to kill a bases-loaded rally.
They normally play to four innings, so for the extra inning they had a weird rule. Each team started with a runner at second and two outs. The Sparks managed to bring that runner home, then held off a ferocious rally attempt by the Crush to tie the game up. Ended on a strike out!
I, being a doofus, forgot to take pictures. So here are some from Wednesday's game: http://flic.kr/s/aHsjF8e3q2

* While I think what the DOJ did to the AP was scary wrong, Richard Engle gives the best explanation of why they likely did it I've heard:

* The Republicans have been calling wolf with a full on five alarm scream since Clinton was elected. Most of the scandals they feel deserve hair on fire screaming are outright invented or mountains out of molehills. (Impeaching someone over a consensual blow job? Really?) There is also the fundamental issue of their often being no clear connection between the President and the scandals real or imaginary that are being attributed to him. (Ex: the IRS has been illegally allowing political organizations 501C4 status since the Eisenhower administration. While it's pretty clear members of the Bush White House used the IRS to target administration enemies, it is not clear anyone in the White House ordered the Cincinnati office to single out only right wing organizations improperly filing instead of sweeping house of all improper 501C4's regardless of party like they ought to have been doing since the '50's. If the evidence turns up showing that white house officials ordered it, I will be just as angry as I was when the Bush administration did it. I would like to see proof first, which I don't think is unreasonable). The Republicans and right wing media have wasted something like half a year on the pretend Benghazi scandal to the point of a Republican source deciding to make up things that would be scandalous if they had actually been in the White House emails and a news service decided to print the made up story in quotes as if it was actual White House. Because this is the quality of made up scandal that they keep screaming is "worse than Watergate and Iran/Contra," I think it's hard for people to summon up an appropriate amount of outrage for real scandals like the one at the DOJ. What the DOJ is doing is a scandal and it pretty much fucks over the AP long term and is dangerous for all investigative journalism. Outrage is appropriate, though again, I think we need evidence so as to know who made these decisions and hold them responsible instead of getting out the blame hoses and randomly soaking people. Unfortunately if there are lots of ear drum shattering false alarms going off all the time, it's hard to pick out the actual alarms warning that the ship of democracy is actually in trouble instead of pretend in trouble for Republican fund rating purposes and news ratings.

Most days the depression is kept fairly quiet and only manifests in random low moods and a steady mild apathy. Then days like today when I'm too tired to hold it together I've just got myself convinced Everything Sucks And It's My Fault.
Irrational? Stupid? Ridiculous? Maybe. Probably.
Worse is that some issues I have to just keep to myself. Googling said problems makes it worse because the internet is full of assholes.
Meh. Whatever.
I'll feel better eventually, just not right now. |
