Nice while it lasted

Just had my last day at my now ex-job (legal secretary for bankruptcy attorney). Like most days on that job, it was fairly quiet (except when it wasn't) and I was mostly left to my own devices while the lawyer took care of his own business; today that meant sitting in the old office waiting for UPS/Fed Ex people, the water service guy, etc etc while he moved the last of his stuff.

Again, it's a case of downsizing, but this time I had plenty of warning - he's in the process of retiring, and is only keeping a (much smaller) office open long enough to close out his remaining cases. I've been with him for just shy of four years, and known for at least the last one that the end was nigh.

I don't have anything else lined up yet, but I am hopeful. I have a good letter of recommendation from him (and another from my previous boss) and enough savings in the bank to last me (worst case) a couple of years, and that once unemployment runs out. I'd like to find work in the legal field again - I have a combined sixteen years of experience, and clerical work suits my skills and temperament. Fingers crossed.
